DVA takes its inspiration from the many innovative Work First initiatives which have been developed during the recent years in Australia, the USA, Great Britain, Scandinavia and the Netherlands.

From the first experiences with Wisconsin Works (W-2) in the USA (1996), the introduction of the Law for Work and Social Assistance (WBB) in the Netherlands (2004) to the more recent experiences in Germany with Harz IV (2005) a promising new Work First development has arrived.

Work First no longer is the old work test program (workfare), but a modern and supportive reintegration program, which fully invests in people, helping them to tap new forces and thus lowering the thresholds to find work.
